St Joseph's Catholic School Dannevirke
The St Joseph’s School curriculum is based on the New Zealand Curriculum Document, whose vision is for students to be confident, connected, actively involved, lifelong learners. English, Mathematics, Science, Social Sciences, Health and Physical Education, Technology, the Arts and Digital Technologies are integrated where possible. Woven through our curriculum is the Religious Education Curriculum. See Education in Faith. We utilise local expertise, environment and resources to enhance learning opportunities.
In building the lifelong learning capacity of students at St Joseph’s School we recognise the importance of the Key Competencies within our School Curriculum. Key Competencies (Managing Self, Participating & Contributing, Thinking, Using Language, Text and Symbols , and Relating to Others) enrich the learning experiences of the students as well strengthen understandings fore-mostly of Religious Education, and then subsequently all of the other Learning Areas.
We acknowledge the Treaty of Waitangi and the bicultural foundations of Aotearoa New Zealand. All students have the opportunity to acquire knowledge of tikanga and Te Reo Maori .
Teaching staff at St Joseph’s endeavour to maintain up to date teaching practices, including using technology, and developing agentic practices to allow students to drive their own learning. Classroom practice is student focussed and caters to the individual needs of students.
